MWRP saves energy because “…the waste-water [we're] using on [our] garden isn't getting pumped back to the city's waste-water treatment system.” -Garden Activist

Recycled water from MWRP contains phosphorous and potassium that is useful for the plants.

This fact has been the driving force for advocates of recycled water for gardening as mentioned in the Garden Activist, an online article which can be accessed here.

MWRP develops a sense of ownership for our waters

Rulangnites are given the ownership of educating the K2 children on the importance of saving water when they visit our school in October

They designed colouring books to be distributed to the visiting K2 students to teach them the importance of conserving water in a fun and creative way

The colouring book has activities that teach the K2 students how MWRP works in a simplified and fun way

The colouring book also has activities that develop a sense of ownership for our waters

This is accomplished by encouraging K2 students to tell their friends about saving water

MWRP fosters interest in caring for our waters

MWRP provides pupils the opportunity to observe and learn more about the water filtration process

Pupils’ interest is piqued as they observe their used water undergoing the filtration process and being recycled to water the plants in the science garden

Pupils can see for themselves through the treated water tank the amount of used water that has been recycled from the toilets. This will drive home the importance of saving every drop of water

MWRP recycles at least 100 litres of water per week for watering of potted plants in the Science Garden and the washing of floor in the school canteen

MWRP gets pupils interested in water conservation by providing them the opportunity to observe and learn more about the water filtration process

Rulangnites are given the opportunity to share with K2 students the working process of MWRP and instill good water conservation habits in them.

This develops a sense of ownership of our waters

Through the use of colouring books and brochures it is hoped that the importance of water conservation could be impressed upon the K2 pupils in a fun and interactive way.

This is in line with our government’s efforts to ensure Singaporeans will never be short of drinking water.

Why do Singaporeans need to conserve water?

Economic growth, rising living standards and density of population threaten to create a serious water shortage, as reported in the Business section of Herald Tribune.
In the same report, we learn that Singapore gets much of its water from Johore under 2 agreements.
The first agreement expires in 2011 and the second agreement expires in 2061.

If we are unable to come up with a new agreement after 2061, can we survive?

Water usage in Singapore has escalated to levels the government finds dangerously wasteful.
